Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Uysal Shared the Findings of the PASS Project at the Disaster Psychology Summit
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Uysal met with participants at the Disaster Psychology Summit with her presentation titled “Pre-Disaster Social Preparedness and Psychological Resilience.” During the presentation, secondary trauma, psychological resilience, and disaster preparedness were discussed based on the findings and field experiences of the PASS Project.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Uysal met with participants within the scope of the Disaster Psychology Summit, which was organized to raise awareness in the field of disaster psychology.

Taking part in the fourth session of the second day of the summit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Burcu Uysal delivered a presentation titled “Pre-Disaster Social Preparedness and Psychological Resilience.” In her presentation, she addressed the importance of individual and social preparedness for disasters, the factors that strengthen psychological resilience, and the role of preventive mental health practices in pre-disaster processes.

Within the scope of the presentation, findings and field experiences obtained during the “Awareness on Secondary Trauma After Earthquake (PASS)” Project were also utilized. Drawing on the experiences of volunteers, experts, and field workers involved in post-disaster processes within the PASS Project, topics such as secondary trauma, psychological resilience, and disaster preparedness were shared with the participants.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uysal emphasized that, in the face of disasters, not only crisis response but also strengthening individual and social psychological resilience during pre-disaster preparedness processes is of great importance. In this context, based on the findings of the PASS Project, she discussed the psychological burdens that individuals working in disaster areas may encounter, preventive mental health approaches, and ways to enhance social preparedness capacity.
